Career Services Spring Calendar

The OFfice of Career Services has posted their spring calendar of events.

Of particular note are the resume writing seminars, mock interviews and a Washington DC Student/Alumni Career Networking reception in Arlington, VA. Career services is providing shuttle transportation to that reception.

Dr. Kit Bowen from Johns Hopkins University will present his talk entitled, "  From DNA's Sub-Units to Aluminum Hydride Clusters to Electron-Induced Proton Transfer in Acid-Base Reactions:  Anion Photoelectron Spectroscopic Studies," at 4 pm on Friday, January 25, 2008 in Jepson 100.  Please, plan on this talk sponsored by the Student Affiliate of the American Chemical Society.  The abstract is attached.

Amy Carfagno Wins VAS Grant

Amy Carfagno was recently awarded a $500 grant from the Virginia Academy of Science to support her research on the link between electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of natural organic matter. To win this award, Amy had to prepare a proposal and present a poster at the Fall 2007 meeting of the VAS in Richmond. Please congratulate Amy when you see her!

Dr. Asper Wins PRF Grant

Please extend your congratulations to Dr. Janet Asper who has received word from the American Chemical Society's Petroleum Research Fund that her proposal entitled " A New Solution Phase Protecting Group Strategy for Alkyl Guanidines" was recommended for funding for $50,000.

When you see Dr. Asper, please congratulate her on submitting an outstanding proposal!!!

The first ACS Student Affiliate meeting will be held Wednesday, September 5th in room 313 at 4pm. We will be discussing plans for this year, including family weekend and national chemistry week.

We are looking for volunteers for the magic show (Sept. 29), if interested please attend the meeting on Wednesday or contact an ACS officer.

If anyone has any ideas for this semester's Jepson T-shirt please place them in the envelope on the door to the pod (room 308).
